Baked Falafel

Falafel is made out of chickpeas and is deep fried. In this variation I bake the Falafel to create a healthier option. I serve it with Pita bread, lettuce and tomato with hummus.


You will need

For the Falafel
2 cups Chickpeas, soaked for 4-6 hours
1 cup Cilantro, chopped
1 cup Onion, chopped
1 tsp. Cumin
1 tbsp. Ginger Garlic paste
1 tsp. chili powder
3 tbsp. all purpose flour
Salt to taste
Olive oil

To serve
Pita bread - I get it from Whole foods.
Sliced tomato
Spinach
Hummus

Preheat oven to 400F. Drain the soaking chickpeas. In a food processor pulse until they break down. Add chopped onion, cilantro, ginger-garlic paste, cumin seeds, flour and salt.


Pulse until it is mixed.


Transfer the contents to a mixing bowl and form lime size balls. Drain any water as you work with the chickpeas. Place the balls on a greased baking sheet.


Bake for 15 minutes. Turn over and bake for another 10 minutes. Turn again and bake for another 5 minutes. Remove from oven and sit for a few minutes.


Serve with Pita bread lined with hummus, spinach and tomato.
